AND DATABASES ========================================================== Before you start this section: - make sure you copied the LinkUP! XTension into your Quark folder - make sure Quark has at least 8Mb of free memeory (details on installation procedures can be found inside "LinkUP! XTension and Applications" folder Note: reference to "spreadsheet" or "database" implies the same. ========================================================== SQL Server To connect Quark to SQL Server, ODBC software driver is required. Visigenic (http://www.visigenic.com) is one amongst many vendors that provide ODBC drivers for the Macintosh. For LinkUP! you need 68k ODBC driver. (Regardless of the hardware you may be running). 1) Set the TCP/IP on the Macintosh When setting the TCP/IP, make sure you are connecting via Ethernet and not PPP etc.Also, you need to set manual configuration of TCP/IP address, ensuring that both server and the Mac have the first three numbers of the address set the same. In the example below Server address is 192.0.0.1 and Mac address is 192.0.0.87. Set the subnet mask according to your network (usually 255.255.255.0)   Once you have set the TCP/IP, ping the server. Ping is the utility that sends data to any chosen TCP/IP address. Often, Ping is the part of the network card installation software. You will find it on the web too. If you can ping the server sucessfully, you can proceed to the next step. 2) Set the ODBC driver on the Macintosh Install the chosen set of the ODBC drivers. (In our example Visigenic) To set the datasource select the ODBC Setup from your Control Panels (Do NOT Select ODBC Setup PPC):   After Select Datasources, select Add   Select the SQL Server driver     Data Source Name: - any name - this would be listed under available data sources when connecting from Quark. Description: - any text - it is not used and represent simple note. Server: - the name of your server. This must match your server name exactly Network Address: - the TCP/IP address of your server. This must match the address of your server exactly. Network Library: - select TCP/IP Login:- Database Name: - type in the name of your database exactly as defined on the server you wish to log into. Language name: - select us_english 3) Check the LinkUP! connectivity Start Quark with the copy of the ODBC LinkUP!. Switch LinkUP! on from the Utilities menu. Show the Markup palette.   Select Toolbox-Import field Names. At this point you should be able to see the list of available system Data Sources.   You should see "My New Datasource" if you followed the previous example. After selecting the datasource, you will be presented with the list of the available tables. Enable "Auto configure to database" checkbox. Select the table you want to connect to. You will observe LinkUP! markup palette being updated with the field names from the selected table. You are now ready to use LinkUP!. If you are running the Demo version make sure that key values in your database reflect the LinkUP! demo files found on the floppy disks. These values are: MINI885, ROLS238, RACER113, GWNG445, INDY345 etc.
